Mount Amiata region

Monticello Amiata

The first records go back to the year 860. In 1240 the village was burnt and rebuilt from Benedictines in 1260. There are two gates in the boundery walls: the “Porta Monticelli” and the “Porta San Francesco”.

In the centre of the village stands the church “San Michiele” (XI century), where you can admire paintings by Rutilio Manetti and Riccio.

Don't miss to visit the Casa Museo in the historic centre of the village, a little ethnographic museum located in an old oilmill.
